This is a story about Sept. 6, 2007.

Today is my cousin Matt’s birthday (HBD, Matthew!) and as I was reminiscing about when he was born and how he’s all old and stuff now, it dawned on me that Diggs and I met for the first time on September 6th. Ten years ago. Which means having to acknowledge that we’re in that weird zone of adulthood where you start referring to things—marriages, jobs, friendships, dog’s ages, cars—with a casual wave of the hand and a flippant, Oh, gosh, it’s probably been 10 years.  That’s a weird feeling, right?

When I picked the girls up from school, I tried to impress them with these stats, hoping for a little wow factor.

Me: Girls, guess what? 10 years ago…today…I met your dad. Can you believe that?

Suz: Where was he going? Did he have a home?

Viv: (eye roll)

Me: Yes he had a home, but how has it been 10 years that we’ve been doing this? It seems like just yesterday.  Time has wings, girls…time has wings.

Suz: A unicorn has wings!

Viv: (near tears) WHAT ARE YOU GUYS EVEN TALKING ABOUT?!?!

After dinner, they asked if they could “do a show” about us, which I suppose is only fair since I’m constantly “doing shows” about them.

Ten years from today, will these goofy girls still want to linger around the table, beg us to play UNO and find us so interesting?

Time has wings.

  1. Yes Alyssa time has wings…..your girls will always remember how their mother told them stories and will cherish their childhood..you are such a great teacher. Sometimes days go sooooo slow, but the years fly. I love you all! Aunt Germaine
